A rebranding that got under the nation's skin.

For years, cities had been rebranding the wrong way – identities designed in secret by small groups behind closed doors failed to capture the spirit of the cities or resonate with the real owners of the brand: the citizens themselves. We revolutionized the way city rebranding is done by turning the process upside down – we involved the citizens in two phases of the rebranding process, and the data they provided guided the work throughout. The result was a Pori that gets under the skin: the city’s visual identity was revamped based on the people’s wishes, and it was launched to the public with its own product line. Pori also got its own font, Pori Sans, which is freely available for download on the city’s website. To everyone’s surprise, the citizens embraced and admired the rebrand – product sales increased by 300%, and research showed that 88.2% of the residents liked the new look. The transparent process ensured that the identity didn’t come as a surprise to people – when they had a chance to influence the outcome, the reception was nothing short of ecstatic.
